2019 Lawson Craddock Youth Cycling League Preview - June 2019

It’s almost that time of the year. The youth track training classes that has trained many Houston area youth throughout the decades is back, The Lawson Craddock Youth Cycling League, 2019 edition.

The LCYCL (Lawson Craddock Youth Cycling League) 3 sessions will happen on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th weeks of June. Session 1 starts June 10th. Each of the other sessions start on the following Mondays. Classes will be Monday-Wednesday each week, from 9 am to 11:30 am each day. Thursday will be held as a rain day.

After the 3 weeks of the LCYCL, the new racers will race to win a track bike of their very own just like Lawson did many years again. That LCYCL Final race will happen in early July.

The LCYCL is for youth is for children 10-16 years old. Racing experience is not necessary, but the participant need to know how to ride a bicycle (reasonably) competently and can follow instructions. This is not a ‘learn how to ride a bike’ class. This is a class for gaining confidence as a rider, honing cycling skills and track racing.

Enrollment is made by submitting a Google Online form: https://forms.gle/pgkw29iqYvtFj86L6 .

After submitting you’ll receive an email confirming the class dates and times for your child. Other particulars; appropriate clothing, sunscreen, water bottle, will be included in the email.

Coach Carl and the NWCC junior cycling team will be coaching the class.

Cost is free, but we ask that if you sign up, make every effort to attend that session. Reschedules are limited as our classes fill up fast and there may be no space for you in other classes if you cancel last moment.

End of a Great 2016 Track Cycling Season, NWCC Junior Style!

Ok, I'll admit it, I'm tired! This has been a long and great year of bicycle racing. and we have had many milestones met and goals achieved by C3 athletes. As we look forward it is always good to look back.

We had athletes who followed the training plans to the tee, make solid progress throughout the year as planned, and they had fantastic performances, attained personal best times, earned medals at nationals and achieved personal goals. This year we also had athletes that had a great pre-season that probably relaxed too much as the season started, leading to panic workouts later in the year. But, performances for these folks were solid, not what they wanted, but solid never the less. Once again, I can say, 'live and learn'. We will adjust.

Next year for Coach Carl Cycling, if I can ever recover from this year, will be bigger and better, but more focused. We will cast a bigger net to make people aware of what is possible in racing bicycles while working more with individual, not group, goals.

It's been a great and tiring year. Our junior team did well all year and I am so proud of all of their accomplishments.   Training plans were 'spot on' most of the time, but as always, there is lots of room for improvement and increased focus. We can't wait for next year.   For a view and review of our 2016 Junior Nationals Campaign in Pennsylvania click here:  https://www.facebook.com/ NWCC2016Nats /
